Logan Breed as Josh Chambers getting REAL excited for the fall TreatDid I mention it’s ‘the people’ that I love about our church?  Here’s another gem.  Logan Breed.  The safety is off.

I am so excited about our Fall Retreat, but I just couldn’t seem to find a good way to express it in a blog.  Then I realized that there’s only one way to capture the way I’m feeling:  poetry.  That’s right – this blog post contains haikus.  But first, I want to take issue with the name of this adventure that we’re going to enjoy on Oct. 16-18.  Since this is the very first one of these things that we’re doing, I don’t think it’s correct to call it a “retreat.”  The prefix “re” implies that we’re doing something that we have already done before.  You can’t reinstall software on your computer before you’ve installed it.  You can’t watch a replay in a football game before the play happens.  And you can’t go on a retreat before you’ve gone on a treat.  So I’m going to call this thing the Restoration Fall Treat.

Now that we have that semantic issue out of the way, let’s move on to the poetry.  I’m really excited about the prospect of escaping from all the things (even if they are “good” things) that fill my calendar, crowd my life, and make it hard for me to hear what God is saying.  I’m also looking forward to extended time with other people from Restoration where we can all let our guard down and be real with each other.

Recharge batteries
Delight in community
Savor the Fall Treat

Let yourself exhale
Slow it down, hear God whisper
Seek and you will find

Sincere; no pretense
Josh Chambers with no hair gel?
This could get ugly

Another thing I’m excited about is spending good time with my kids in an environment that doesn’t have any of the things that normally distract them.

Connect with your kids
Forge new family memories
Sleep is optional

As other bloggers have mentioned, we’ve also lined up an awesome set of talented people to entertain, teach, and lead us.

Fun for all ages
Danny Ray will do magic
Can he fix the Nats?

Music will rock you
Alex Mejias can sing
David Hanke can’t

“Character That Counts”
No idea what that phrase means
But it sounds profound

Finally, if you haven’t signed up yet, it’s not too late:

Don’t get left behind
Everyone is doing it
Peer pressure is good

Wow. If there is ever a post that made me want to go to a (re)treat…that’s it right there.

Great haiku, Logan — maybe we should have a haiku writing contest as our “Fall Treat” ice breaker.

    Fall Treat is almost here
    Bicycling during free time

Oops, I just realized that ‘almost’ has two syllables. Poetry roadkill!

    Parish – ute retreat?
The Jones gang can’t wait to go
    and build memories.

    Autumn treat is neat.
Change beat feet to resting feet.
    Character complete.

Not so sure if Haikus should rhyme…
