Your sermon really, really touched me. Broken families are so common today, and it always breaks my heart to see it, whether in my own extended family or in that of someone else. We should not let any dysfunctional family experience color our view of what is a church family, anymore than we should let an experience of an abusive father color an understanding of a right relationship with the Father. In both cases, it is easier said then done, that is to get past the painful memory, especially when great hurt is engendered. Our weaknesses are so great. Real forgiveness and healing can only come about by turning to our great high priest, at whose throne of grace “…we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Heb. 4:14-16, quoted at 16.
