Oh How I Need You

John 1:5 “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

The band All Sons and Daughters has recently put out some very good music most of which is great for personal meditation while recalling Scriptural truths.  When their latest ep, The Longing, came out, I grew ecstatic when I heard their song “Oh How I Need You.”  I need to be singing these words.  We need to be singing these words.

Lord I find You in the seeking
Lord I find You in the doubt
And to know You is to love You
And to know so little else

I need You, Oh how I need You

Lord I find You in the morning
Lord I seek You every day
Let my life be for Your glory
Woven in Your threads of grace

I need You, Oh how I need You

Light glorious Light, I will go where You shine
Break the dawn, crack the sky
Make the way bright before me
In your Light I will find all I need, all I need is You.

I recently went to a vigil where the book of John was read straight through four times (I did not stay awake for the whole vigil), but as I faded in and out from sleep I would hear the words of John and his love of the word “light” as a description for Christ and his ushering in of Kingdom truths and happenings.  This song when sung as prayer and proclamation orients our hearts to the new promise that God has for the nations.  May our witness ever reflect the light of Christ in which darkness has no power.

“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’” – John 8:12
