Children

We are honored to come alongside and encourage families to witness the power of the Holy Spirit as our kids grow in their love of God and trust in Jesus.

We believe:

God knows you. (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 139:1-4)

He is crazy about you. (John 10:11)

He goes with you everywhere. (John 14:16, 26)

In other words, we are:

Known.

Loved.

Not alone.

On Sundays, we make space for kids and leaders — nursery through 5th grade — to encounter the Lord and wonder about all that He has to say to us as we meet in small groups tailored to kids’ varying abilities and needs.

Our kids’ small groups are a taste of what it’s like to live a life with Christ — reading the Bible and wondering about who God is and who we are to Him, all while being together with others to pray and play, too.

Spiritual Formation

The spiritual formation of our children is influenced by what they see and experience as they are joyfully received into the church family.

Sundays @ 8, 9:30 & 11:15 am

Kids are always welcome to join their families for worship in the sanctuary — we even have a bookcase loaded with “listening tools” that are available to both kids and adults! Feel free to borrow what’s there.

Nursery-aged kids (those not yet 3 by September 30, 2025) are welcome in the nursery throughout the entire service. Please check your kid in down the hall on the first floor. Nursery-aged kids are welcome upstairs for the Eucharist or you can pick your kid up at the end of the service.

Preschoolers through 5th graders and the grownups who love them check in with their kids’ small group leaders on the first floor before heading up to the sanctuary for the opening worship. When kids are released to go to their small groups, they follow the banner as they head downstairs to their small group rooms. Preschool through 5th grade kids reunite with parents when they return to the sanctuary in time for the Eucharist. Nursery-aged kids are welcome join us for the Eucharist or you can pick your kid up at the end of the service.

The Sacraments for Families || communion

Curious about communion? Wonder why we do what we do on a Sunday morning? Join Rev. Addie Anderson and Louise Brooks on Saturday, February 21, 2026 from 9-10:30 am for an inter-generational and multi-sensory way for families to learn together about the sacrament of communion — and also learn ways of entering into spiritual conversations together. Geared toward all* ages, we will come to a deeper understanding of Jesus’ instruction to us through story, wondering, and hands-on play as we recognize, reflect, and respond to what we know and what we’re curious about communion. *Nursery will NOT be provided, but babes in arms are welcome to join us.

Holy Listening for Children

Spirituality has been defined as God’s ways of being with us and our ways of being with God. Children have a deep sense of God’s presence. The adults around them have an opportunity to listen and help learn the language of God’s presence with the child in their midst where that language brings deeper understanding to both the child and the adult with whom that child shares. Holy Listening is where children are heard and supported as they seek to make meaning of God’s presence in the experiences of their lives. Learn more about Holy Listening with Ms. Louise here.

Gatherings

STORYTIME Join Miss Victoria for storytime on Tuesday, December 2. Kids of all ages–and the grown ups who love them–are invited to gather together from 10-11am for picture book read alouds, followed by a chance to hang out and play. It’s a great place to meet friends–both old and new! We meet at Oak Grove Park. (If it’s raining, we don’t meet at all.) Beginning January 6, 2026, storytime moves inside and meets weekly on Tuesdays at 10am at Restoration.

ANYTIME Tune in to Pray & Ponder, our podcast for kids and the grownups who love them.

Volunteering

CURIOUS ABOUT BECOMING A KIDS’ SMALL GROUP LEADER? Let us know here and Louise Brooks, our director of kids’ small groups, will be in touch with you to schedule a conversation.

SAFEGUARDING OUR CHILDREN. We as a church are committed to protecting those entrusted to our care. We follow the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic’s Policy for the Protection of Children and Adults. On Sunday mornings, our supervision plan guides our interactions between and among kids and adults. We require that all who serve as kids’ small group leaders be part of the Restoration community for at least six months. Additionally, all our volunteers complete an application, undergo a background check, and attend our SAFEGUARDING || abuse awareness training every two years.
