Dear Restoration,

A COLLECT FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY

Lord God, by your providence
our founders won their liberties of old:
Grant that we and all the people of this land
may have grace to exercise these liberties
in righteousness and peace;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.

As we come into this 4th of July holiday, I am praying for our church family to experience rest, a good nap, spontaneous laughter, fireworks, fun food, a meaningful conversation, and prayers of thanksgiving for the land and nation in which we live. May God make us grateful stewards of the abundant resources for which we care. Have a wonderful holiday!!

Quick reminder that we are now on our Summer Sunday Service Schedule: we gather at 9:00 and 11:00 for worship. Kids who have not been to kindergarten yet have small groups during the service. Kids who are elementary-aged and older stay with us in the sanctuary. It has been a great joy to have them be a part of our worship and to hear them lead us in the reading of our Psalms. We have also had cold brew coffee and special breads after church. I hope you have been able to linger and meet someone new! I have enjoyed our longer conversations.

This is my last Rector’s Update for a while. I’m not going anywhere, just taking a slower pace. I will be back on my weekly cadence at the end of August. A note on our transition to Church Center:
Thank you for engaging with our transition to Church Center over the month of June.

We have 90% of recurring donations moved to the new platform, which far surpassed our expectations! THANK YOU!!! 

And a big thank you to Callie Goyer who led this project for us. We are all grateful for the speed and quality with which the transition occurred. Thanks, Callie!

Over the next few months we will continue to roll out new Church Center features that will help our team continue to engage with you in meaningful ways.

Isaac introduced this song to us in the offertory last Sunday. I love how the words push me to prayer. In fact, our staff team spent some time yesterday allowing this song to lead us into prayer for our country, for Independence Day, for the coming Presidential Election, and for our citizenship in the Kingdom of Jesus.
 
I hope these words and phrases also inspire your prayer imagination as we live in between the kingdoms of this world and the Kingdom Everlasting. 
 
THE KINGDOM OF JESUS
To what shall we compare the kingdom of Jesus if not a seed?
It’s small, it’s sown, it’s tended and grown, 
and it’s sturdy within you and me
It’s branches never break, and it’s fruit never withers 

His Kingdom is not of this world or of any kingdom 
whose ruler’s face is on a penny 
He comes to make all things bright and put new wine in us 
He’s chosen the small things to outlast the great
The meek and the merciful to shine through the hate
Though it seems some days that hell and its gates are prevailing 
O say can you see the kingdom within us
