Reading looking back, reading looking forward
3 Recommendations to keep you reading and thinking about the Holy Spirit (in order of preference!!)
1. Keep In Step With the Spirit, by J.I. Packer Dr. Packer does a magnificent job of walking through the various evangelical traditions with regard to the Spirit. He also deeply addresses the role of the Spirit in sanctification and setting us free.
2. The Holy Spirit and His Gifts, by J. Oswald Sanders This one is out of print, but if you are looking for a rich, readable study of all the passages of Scripture that talk about about the Spirit– this is it.
3. Paul, the Spirit, and the People of God by Gordon Fee Dr. Fee’s highly readable treatment of the Holy Spirit is probably my favorite. But I list it third because I used a lot of his insights during the series, so I wanted to encourage you to go after some others first. If you have not read this book, I highly recommend it for your bucket list.
Reading Forward
We are set to launch in to 4 weeks with King Josiah. Want to get ahead and be ready to go? Planning on being out of town for the 4th? If you look at these short passages, you can capture the whole of Josiah’s life. I’ll be digging in to a different aspect of it each week during July.
- 2 Kings 22-23
- 2 Chronicles 34-35
- Zephaniah (one of the prophets of God to King Josiah)
I recommend reading as much of it in one sitting as possible– helps you get the full picture.
Remember, during the summer, we only have children’s church for pre-schoolers and we only have it at the 8:30. So come early!
See ya soon.
