Rector’s Update: the peaceful days of August
Hi Restoration,
“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Mark 6:31b
It is an old adage that Washington clears out in August. Summer swim is over. The humidity is at its peak. The need to exhale and sleep in becomes paramount. I know that many of you will slip away for a few days this month and I am praying that the Lord meets you with his refreshment and rest. Don’t forget that Beth created a wonderful summer resource for us. Perhaps there are a few quiet hours in those days away where you can focus your attention on Jesus and the things He is doing in your soul.
Get some rest.
PICKLEBALL!!
One of the ways we rest and recover is to play! We had so much fun at the Pickleball Picnic this past Sunday. Yep, it rained a bit. No one seemed to mind. A great turnout, lots of smiles, delicious food, lingering conversation, and lots of pickleball. If you missed it or loved it or can’t wait to get together with everyone again… save the date for the Fall Retreat: October 8-9!!
TONIGHT!!!!
Another way that we experience renewal and restoration is to hear the stories of what God is doing in the lives of our friends and in places around the world. Tonight we get to hear from two special groups: our friends C+R who live in the city between the continents and our Apex team that served in Nogales, Mexico. We will start at 7:00 with snacks (of course). There is childcare for kids 5th grade and below (please register). We will have a chance to hear their stories and ask questions. I loved our summer evening on the 39 Articles last month and this summer evening will be a similar opportunity to see good friends, meet new ones, and be reminded of the power and hope God brings when His people serve Him with joy. Hope you can be there tonight!
If you would like to bring a small gift to bless C+R, they have a list of favorite foods that they can’t get in the city where they live. We will have a box in the narthex tonight and on Sunday– if you would like to bring an item for them to take back. No pressure. I just get asked if there is anything they need. So…
Here are some things we can’t get and really miss when we’re away:
Cholula or Tabasco hot sauce
almond extract
vanilla extract
granola and cereal
maple syrup
salsa
sprinkles
Thai curry paste
black beans
candy corn
SUNDAY
Just a quick note for those of you who join us on Sundays via our YouTube Channel. We will not be broadcasting the service on August 7 nor will we be recording the sermon for the podcast. This is a cautionary measure because of security concerns for our speaker, C. You won’t want to miss what he has to say, so if you can join us in person, please do!
A Quiet Place…
May the Lord bless you in your quiet places this month.
May He give you rest and restore your soul.
I’m praying for you.
