Realigning Affections
“It is pain that penetrates through despair and stimulates a new beginning – a journey to God that becomes a life of peace.” – Eugene Peterson
The liturgical seasons point me to the ebb and flow of my journey helping me to reexamine the way I engage with Jesus’ story. Asking the Spirit to help me see my heart soberly and to painfully peer into the ways it is not aligned with God’s will gives me a greater capacity to understand how merciful and gracious the Lord is. I feel the transformation of God realigning my affections as I choose to pursue his goodness, and I experience more of the countless reasons that I should continue to go to Jesus and bless his name.
Come, ye sinners, poor and needy,
Weak and wounded, sick and sore;
Jesus ready stands to save you,
Full of pity, love and power.
Come, ye thirsty, come, and welcome,
God’s free bounty glorify;
True belief and true repentance,
Every grace that brings you nigh.
I will arise and go to Jesus
He will embrace me in His arms;
In the arms of my dear Savior,
O there are ten thousand charms.
Come, ye weary, heavy laden,
Lost and ruined by the fall;
If you tarry till you’re better
You will never come at all
I will arise and go to Jesus
He will embrace me in His arms
In the arms of my dear Savior,
O there are ten thousand charms.
