Crazy Scooter Guy – New Song
There I am risking my life on my shiny red scooter, guitar on my back, riding down Route 7 on my way home from work listening to my Jon Foreman Pandora station, and this song comes on. It starts off really simple and really sappy, and for a moment I wish I could safely change the song, but I am flying along at 37 mph. Then something unexpected happens. I start singing along and almost start crying. Yep, I’m that crazy scooter guy bellowing sappy songs as I ride. I dangerously peel into a McDonalds parking lot so that I can safely see what this song is so I can take another listen at home. The song is “Esther” by Esterlyn…yep, I’d never heard of it or them.
When I got home I listened to it a couple more times, and I have fallen in love with how this song celebrates God’s character concerning the fatherless, the broken, and the unknown and then makes it our prayer to step in and join that part of God’s character. I tweaked a few lyrics (making it a little less us/them) and changed the style from sap into more celebration, and I am so excited about singing it with you this Sunday.
[audio:https://restorationarlington.org/files/2013/06/Esther-G.mp3|titles=Esther]You heal the broken-hearted
You bind our wounds
You are Love
You find those forgotten
Those who’ve been abused
You are Love
You know my name
You’re a father to the fatherless
A healer of the brokenness
You make, beauty from the ashes
You’re a helper to the helpless
A fighter for the hopeless
You love, those who feel alone
Those who feel alone
You comfort the lonely
You hear our cry
You are love
You hold the children
Throughout the night
You are Love
You know my name
You’re a father to the fatherless
A healer of the brokenness
You make, beauty from the ashes
You’re a helper to the helpless
A fighter for the hopeless
You love, those who feel alone
Those who feel alone
Give us your heart, Lord
Help us love the unseen
Give us your eyes, Lord
Help us love those in need
Your a father…
Looking forward to worshiping with you all on Sunday! You can check out the whole set list here.
