Selma: January 6 @7pm
This is going to be good. We have a great opportunity to learn and pray together. I have been so encouraged this fall by new friendships with some pastors in the Washington DC area. And like many of you, I have been praying, wrestling, talking, and trying to understand what is currently happening in our country as we seek to live together in peace.
So when an opportunity came up to host a screening of Selma, I asked three of these pastors if they would like to host it together. This is how I put it… ‘I know that our churches have never done anything together and that we are just beginning to get to know each other, but ‘a movie seems like a good first date.’
They were enthusiastic in their ‘yes’! And I am so excited for us to enjoy an evening together. I hope you can join us next week.
Here is all the information you need to get there:
When is it? Tuesday, January 6 at 7:00pm at the Regal Gallery Place Stadium 14
Who are the three other pastors? Todd Sutton at Church of the Redeemer (P-USA), Kendrick Curry at The Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church, and Justin Fung at The District Church.
How do I get a ticket? On Sunday, January 4, after each service at Restoration, you can purchase a ticket voucher for $13. We are sharing a 200 person theater and we only have 60 tickets that are allotted for us. So they will go quickly! Please bring cash or check. If there are any extras, they will be available for purchase at the door on Tuesday.
When should I arrive? You should arrive early. The theater will be sold out because we have bought all the tickets! You can pick up your ticket starting at 6:30. The doors will open at 7:00. There will be a table in front of the theater where you check in and exchange your voucher for a ticket.
Will we get a chance to pray? I hope so! There will be a short introduction from all the pastors before the film begins. We have also reserved the theater for 45 minutes after the movie ends in order to have a discussion and time of prayer. Hope you can stay and get to know some new friends.
Is the movie any good? I have not seen it yet, but this review in the Post was really encouraging. It is rated PG-13. Common Sense Media has a helpful review if you are thinking about bringing your tween or teen. I hope to bring mine.
Will there be snacks? Of course. It’s Restoration.
