Wardens’ Report: September 2022
September 20, 2022
The vestry met at Restoration on Tuesday, September 20, for our ninth meeting of 2022. Jen Paterno led us in prayer, thanking God for our faithful Apex leaders, Lexi McMann and Ryan Goyer. We prayed for God’s grace in the coming months as Lexi prepares for maternity leave in early October while Ryan steps up to lead our growing numbers of middle schoolers and high schoolers along with our dedicated volunteers. In July we prayed for Ryan and his wife Callie (Restoration’s Operations Coordinator) to find a new place to live and are grateful to God for his provision of the right home for the Goyers.
The vestry approved the August 2022 minutes and the 2022 Vestry Discernment Committee (VDC), which will consist of Lorene Eberhardt, Adam Guzzo, Dan Vogel, and David Hanke. The VDC will lead the nomination and election process for three new vestry members later this fall. We invite you to prayerfully consider your own interest and nomination of any Restoration members who can make a meaningful commitment to serve our church as a vestry member. The fall is always a busy time at Restoration, and this year is no exception, as we look forward to a Parish meeting on September 25, the Fall Retreat (returning in person with a lip sync contest to Massanetta Springs!) October 8 – 9, a Living God’s Story dinner on October 11 for those interested in membership, the DOMA bishop election, and vestry election.
The vestry also received an update from Karen McNeilly, chair of the Race + Reconciliation Advisory Team on potential new members and from Jen Paterno, Chair of the Outreach Advisory Team, on potential recipients of additional funds from our Outreach Grants. As a reminder, Restoration gives 10% of our annual income to local and global partners. With our fiscal year ending August 31st, we will soon have confirmation that our income was higher than budgeted, and thus we will be able to give away more to our partners. We are humbled at God’s provision through the generosity and faithfulness of our congregation.
Our meeting concluded with discussions and plans related to David Hanke’s candidacy for bishop, as the vestry carries out the steps described in our rector succession policy. You can find more information or submit questions on our website, or join us for prayer at one of our weekly Vestry-led prayer meetings.
We welcome your questions, encouragement, feedback, and most of all, your prayers. You can read an archive of past Wardens’ Reports on our website or Vestry Meeting minutes on CCB, under the ‘Files’ tab in the ‘Entire Church Group’
