Wardens’ Report: July 2022
July 19, 2022
The Vestry met at Restoration on Tuesday, July 19, for our seventh meeting of 2022. Mary Jo led us in prayer in the sanctuary. We earnestly prayed for God’s wisdom in discerning who he has determined should be our next Rector, should David be elected Bishop, and a sense of peace for David and his family during this uncertain time. We also thanked God for his financial provision through the generous giving of our church as we prepared to approve our FY23 budget and outreach grants. We prayed for two of our staff members – Kat Downs and Callie Goyer. We gave thanks for Kat’s capable leadership as our Executive Director and the many ways she guides our staff and leads the operations of our church. We prayed for continued healing from her recent surgery and for her family’s quick recovery from a recent sickness. We celebrated God’s faithfulness in bringing Callie on board as Operations Coordinator and how quickly and effectively she has taken on the responsibilities of that role. We also prayed for her and Ryan as they look for a new place to live in the area.
The Vestry approved the June 2022 minutes and 2022 DOMA Synod delegates and alternates. The delegates are: Brett Wierenga, Richard Hines, Meaghan Maguire, Joel Harris, Mike Holmes, Merry Grace Bagwell, Karen Wrightsman. The alternates are: Michael Strickland, Tim Futoran, Danny Lee, and Ashley Harper. We are grateful that all of these people are willing to represent Restoration at the Diocesan Synod in November.
Dennis Wong provided an update from the Personnel Advisory Team as they have been reviewing our staffs’ benefits and compensation in light of our country’s current economic situation.
The Vestry approved the final FY23 budget set at $2.3 million. The FY23 budget represents a 6% increase over our FY22 budget and reflects the thoughtful leadership of our Treasurer, Dan Vogel, and Assistant Treasurer, Meaghan Maguire, working in close coordination with our Finance Advisory Team. We continue to give thanks to God for his generous provision and humbly ask for his blessing upon our church financially as our budget grows to support the work of our church this coming year.
In addition, the Vestry approved $186,736 in outreach grants to more than 20 organizations. It is our practice at Restoration to give away 10% of our income to a mixture of organizations serving people both domestically and internationally with a focus on organizations that we can invest in with more than just our financial resources. We are grateful for Jen Paterno’s thoughtful approach and leadership, on behalf of the Outreach Advisory Team, in evaluating the many grant requests we received this year. We are excited to partner with the many wonderful organizations that will receive a grant from Restoration this year.
Finally, the Vestry discussed our communication plans, policies, and protocols related to the DOMA Bishop process during this period of waiting and potential transition.
We welcome your questions, encouragement, feedback, and most of all, your prayers. You can read an archive of past Wardens’ Reports on our website or Vestry Meeting minutes on CCB, under the ‘Files’ tab in the ‘Entire Church Group’
