Dear Restoration,

“They know the truth about God because He has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God has made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities– his eternal power and divine nature…”

The skies display his craftsmanship.”

I so enjoyed the anticipation and the experience of the solar eclipse on Monday. Restoration has been preaching through Paul’s letter to the Roman churches over the last year and as I watched the reactions of thousands of people, in city after city, I was struck by the veracity of Romans 1:19-20 and Psalm 19.

God, truly has made Himself known. His creation shouts His splendor. His wonders beg for curiosity. 

I was meeting someone for coffee in Ballston on Monday afternoon and as I rode my bike over, every green space that I passed was filled with a group of people, wearing fun glasses, staring at the heavens… and marveling. 

Our Creator God is magnificent. And people notice all the time. May we be a church of people who connect ‘those magical moments’ to the One who is REAL. He isn’t magic. His doesn’t traffic in illusions. He made the sun. And He can block it with a moon shadow that for a brief moment, gets the world’s attention. ‘You feel it in every cell of your body.’

Our friend, Jesus, is full of grace. He made a way for us to be forgiven, redeemed, and led. Because of Him, you can ‘let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.’ (Romans 12:2)

Our comforter Holy Spirit gives gifts and draws us together into one body, though we are many (Romans 12:5). Our lives are so rich and complex because of the adventure on which the Holy Spirit takes us. 

God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the heavens proclaim your glory! 
We saw it on Monday in a beautiful, unique way. May we be people who give you credit and praise as we invite the world to know, what you have made obvious…

Restoration is a church that is full of generous people and creative ideas. Last year the vestry established a process to respond to both Restoration’s financial generosity and new opportunities in a more nimble fashion than just during the annual budget cycle.

We just completed the first round of funding “previously unfunded projects”. Our Executive Director and Wardens would like to share about the congregational ideas that the vestry funded in the first quarter of 2024 and the ways that you can suggest your own. The update will take about 30 minutes on Sunday at 1pm.
