Weather Update [2/20 3:00pm]

Praise God!  Our speaker for tonight is on a plane and the plane is in the air.  Woo Hoo!  Dr. Vincent Bacote will be in Arlington soon!  So the plenary session for this evening will happen as planned.  Please park in the lot over I-66.  We will have a shuttle transporting people to Restoration and back.  The plenary tonight will begin at 7:15.  Feel free to arrive starting at 7:00.  It will end at 9:00.

Weather Update [2/20 6:30am]

Good morning!  The snow has started.  Our county was ready!  The streets look pretty clear.  We think that you will be able to make your way to the church this morning.  Please use care and caution.  If you or your host family need the support of an all-wheel drive vehicle, please call the number on your M25G schedule.  We have some drivers with vehicles that can come get you.

We encourage you to bring warm coats, snow boots, gloves and mittens…   We are looking at the schedule for the rest of the day.  It will hover around 32 degrees and be very wet.  We will let you know about the DC trip later this morning.

Right now our evening session is still a go.  Please check back at noon for an update.

The building will be open for soaking prayer and prayer appointments at 7:45am, then Plenary #2 begins with Morning Prayer at 8:30am.  Lots of coffee will be on-site.

What a wonderful way to kick things off last night…

"We long for the essence of the church to be this..."

Arriving Early:

If you get to Arlington before 3pm on Tuesday, February 19, here are some options:

  1. You are welcome to make your way to Restoration.  The Gathering starts at 3, but you are welcome to hang out in the church and sanctuary until then.  People will be setting up, but there are no planned activities.
  2. The Ballston neighborhood is an easy 20 minute walk from Restoration.  There are lots of places to eat, a library, and a mall.  The Hilton is also located in this neighborhood if that is where you are staying.  Here is a map to give you an idea of what is there.  There will be hard copies of this at Restoration.

The Gathering closes with Holy Eucharist which will conclude at 12:30pm on Thursday, February 21.  Lunch will be on your own and is not provided.  There are lots of restaurant options close to Restoration.

All transportation to the Gathering needs to be arranged by you.  We are not able to provide ground shuttle from airports.  You will have to get yourself from an airport to Restoration.  Please use Lyft, Uber, or Airport Taxi.   Taxi cost from DCA is about $25.  Taxi cost from IAD is about $50.

You can also use Metro to get from DCA.  Here is the WMATA Trip Planner.   You are going from ‘DCA to Restoration Anglican Church’.  Choose ‘Rail Only’.  Here is a screen shot of your itinerary.

Transportation During the Gathering:

If you are staying in the home of a Restoration member, we will provide transportation each day from your lodging to the church.

If you are staying in a hotel, you will need to provide your own transportation by walking, taxi, or scooter.  Scooters are the easiest way to get from Restoration to hotel sites.  Bird is the most common.  Lime is available as well.  We recommend downloading the app before you arrive.

Towards an Anglican Social Theology

At our 2017 Gathering, we invited a few theological observers to help us articulate the DNA of justice and mercy that we desire to form into the province of the Anglican Church in North America.

Father Nicholas Krause has given us a tremendous gift.  Please take some time to read:  Justice and Mercy Contending for Shalom.  It describes what God is doing through our Gatherings, through The Matthew 25 initiative, and through Anglicans in North America who are doing works of justice and mercy.  Father Nicholas will be hosting a workshop at our Gathering.  When you see him, please express your gratitude for his hard work to give words to who we are and who we want to become.

We can’t wait to see you in Arlington on February 19!

Restoration Volunteers:  Thank you for Volunteering at the Gathering!

Hi Restoration!

We are so grateful for a church that is generous with its time and resources.  You can read what David wrote here a few months back if you would like more information about The Matthew 25 Gathering and Restoration’s role in it.  We are presently at capacity for those attending, so we would love to have all hands on deck as we welcome those who will be with us in a few days.

Volunteering: Many of you are opening your homes so that participants can experience gracious lodging.  Thank you!  We are looking for people to help provide a smooth registration process and attentive on-site hospitality (serving meals, making coffee, etc…).  If you’re not available during the event there is still a way to participate by providing sweet and savory goodies for our snack table.

Sign up to help with providing snacks here.  Sign up to help with volunteering during the event here.

On-Site Prayer: We are looking for over 50 people from Restoration to provide prayer during the Gathering.  It is one of the largest mobilizations of prayer people in our history and I am excited to see how God uses it in our community.  We believe that you will enjoy serving during the Gathering.

Sign up for a prayer slot or two here.

Wednesday, February 20, at 7pm:  As an expression of appreciation to Restoration, the whole church is invited to attend the evening plenary session of The Matthew 25 Gathering in our sanctuary.  Dr. Vincent Bacote of Wheaton College will be speaking on The Political Disciple:  a courageous public witness.  It will be fascinating and we would love for you to come.

Thank you so much, Restoration!

Check out the video below to see what this is about and who we have invited to come.
