My happiest memory of the year 2013 is not one single event, but a redemptive pattern which my gracious Heavenly Father set in motion on Christmas Eve of 2012, when I came to the afternoon service in the old Restoration sanctuary and found myself sitting next to Mitch and Susie, their two boys and Mitch’s mother, and they spontaneously invited me to share their Christmas Eve dinner with them after the service–and then they invited me to be part of their Restoration small group. In the year that followed, I took an unplanned ride in an ambulance, received a life-altering–but fortunately not life-threatening–diagnosis, and began to redefine what my life in Christ ought to be. Of course, I am still far from being everything I ought to be, but God has been so faithful in seeing to it that I am now also much different from the person I was before I had the crisis that put me in an ambulance. Thanks be to God!
