Why W VA?
Are you a visitor who is trying to decide whether Restoration should become your church home?
Are you a regular or member who has thought about signing on for four days of work and worship in Philippi, West Virginia, but not yet done so?
If the answer is ‘yes’ to either question, we hope our experience in the 2014 trip might nudge you to sign up this year.
If it is any indication of the inspiration provided by the warmth, laughs, hard work, and Christian fellowship we experienced, we have since joined Restoration and become involved in helping with the Sunday liturgy, the Arlington Food Assistance Center, the ESOL program, hosting a small group, and involvement in all the various retreats the church sponsors.
How could our four days have touched us so deeply? For one thing, the organizers had meaningful work to take on with the active participation of the families we were helping. It provided every volunteer, skilled or unskilled (like us!) with ways to contribute. For another, developing friendships with the families at the sites was every bit as important as the projects themselves, maybe more so. Every evening we shared a devotional, and through prayer, music, and small group discussions, we were constantly reminded of God’s presence in our lives and those of the precious residents in that community. Finally, if humor is one of the Lord’s Tender Mercies, He showered us with this gift in a half dozen ways including nightly board games and the laughter we shared while working and getting to know our host families and fellow volunteers.
To discover the heart and soul of Christian mission and why Restoration Anglican Church has become such a vital part of lives like ours, please join us this year at Philippi, June 24-28.
