Wardens’ Report: April 2021
Wardens’ Report April 2021
The Vestry held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 27 virtually. Erica Chapman led us in prayer to start the meeting. Rector David Hanke provided his monthly report, and we approved the meeting minutes from our March 23 meeting.
We had a chance to express our appreciation for Isaiah Brooms and discussed his new role at The Falls Church Anglican where he will be providing pastoral care, preaching and sacramental life. He will be missed by our congregation, but we are excited for his opportunity and glad that he will just be a few miles down Arlington Boulevard.
Facilities: Adam Guzzo provided a motion to allocate funds from our Building Fund to paint the exterior wooden trim of the building. The Building Fund is a separate account from our Operating Fund, with our budget contributing a steady amount each year for future building and infrastructure needs. The motion passed unanimously.
Outreach: Chair Karen McNeilly moved to supplement our Lent and Holy Week 2021 offerings with Outreach funds to Telos for a total gift of $15,553. The motion passed unanimously.
Personnel: Lorene Eberhardt gave an update on our recent hiring and potential transfers of roles and responsibilities on our staff. We gave thanks specifically for Chris Stephens and how his skills will serve us well in taking over the audiovisual and technical responsibilities Isaiah previously held. We also explored the idea of continuing our successful Curacy program over the next several years.
Phase Gamma: We are fortunate that our in-person services have been filling up quickly and that our Kids Small Group has been up-and-running for several weeks now. And, we are thankful to our industrious staff for their accommodation and flexibility. With that in mind, we are exploring ways to expand our capacity for services. While we have not settled on any immediate changes, we expect to find a way to allow opportunities to incorporate more people in-person in the near future.
Finance: Dan Vogel provided an update on our finances through the first eight months of our fiscal year. Our finances remain very healthy with giving above projections, expenses below projections and growing attendance of both in-person services and virtual viewings. Dan also presented the Finance team’s recommendations for refinancing the mortgage on our building and expect to have a final proposal at our May Vestry meeting in conjunction with our budget planning for FY22.
The Vestry met for a brief retreat this past weekend where we discussed a refocus on the 2025 Good Things Grow Here strategy. As always, we welcome your questions, encouragement, and feedback. You can read an archive of past Wardens’ Reports on our website or Vestry Meeting minutes on CCB, under the ‘Files’ tab in the ‘Entire Church Group’.
