6 If you put these things before the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, being trained in the words of the faith and of the good doctrine that you have followed. 7 Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; 8 for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. 9 The saying istrustworthy and deserving of full acceptance. 10 For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.
(1 Timothy 4:6-10, ESV)
Restoration is creating a venue where men can hear clear teaching on what it means to be a man in today’s culture. We will consider the features of godliness through the lens of our vocation, our relationships, and our identity as children of God. I love the way people at Restoration wrestle with Scripture and their life. It is my hope to create a safe place for people to ask hard questions, to look at their own shortcomings, and to receive grace in their time of need. I have found that when I am dealing with these things, I go deeper in my friendships and I find brothers who will encourage me as I train for godliness. I hope all the guys at Restoration will experience that too.
What are the topics? humbleness, courage, selflessness, moral-purity, faithfulness, self control
When will you meet? One Tuesday a month from 7:30-9:00pm in the sanctuary at Little Falls Presbyterian Church: October 15, November 12, December 17, January 14, February 11, March 11, April 8
What’s gonna happen in those 90 minutes? I will give a brief 20 minute teaching on the topic. We will hear a testimony from a man in our church who has been ‘training for godliness’ in this area. We’ll split into small groups for some conversation. And we’ll have a panel that does some Q&A. You will not be bored.
Anything happening afterwards? We are hoping that relationships form for mentoring and on-going conversation. Most of us want a mentor. Many of us could mentor. Those relationships happen best when they develop organically and we want to create a space for that to happen. We will probably head to a restaurant close by for a bite to eat.
Can I bring a friend? Absolutely. Someone who doesn’t attend our church? Even better.
See you on the 15th.
