Done with deception
In addition to trying to wrap my head around the fact that we’re supposed to get multiple inches of snow tonight, today I’ve been thinking about some of the key moments of yesterday’s worship:
- Being back! I’d been gone the previous two Sundays, and I missed you all. It felt good to be home.
- Are you done with deception? The closing words of David’s sermon about purity of heart were the best kind of challenge: sharply penetrating but bearing the promise of great freedom. While the prospect
of living without guile can seem scary, spending our energy on “truth management” really is exhausting and isolating. Not to mention that it keeps us from seeing God! I appreciated the honesty of David’s acknowledgment that being pure in heart doesn’t mean you’ll go through life unscathed — but that walking with a limp (like Jacob did) is better than keeping up the front. - “Lord, have mercy” – The song of response that Matt and Dawnielle led us in after the sermon was beautiful and spot-on. Thanks for giving us a powerful vessel for prayer and a chance to reflect on the goodness and graciousness of God!
- Casa Chirilagua: I’m really looking forward to learning more about the great ministry that Casa Chirilagua is doing among the immigrant community on the Arlington-Alexandria border. Restoration is proud to support these folks — and to number many of them among us! Please plan to join us this coming Sunday, Feb. 27, at 12:45 in the sanctuary. And yes, there will be food!
